You Meet in Heaven,' Church Records
Read a good book this summer, or track your family background as
Jackson Community College continues to offers its Book Club @ JCC and
Genealogy @ JCC programs.
Schedule for June includes:
-
The Book Club @ JCC: "The
Five People you Meet in Heaven" by Mitch Albom, 2 p.m. June 15, Federer
Room A, Potter Center. Heaven
is not just a place, it's the answer! New York Times bestselling author
Mitch Albom follows up his phenomenal "Tuesdays with Morrie" with a
novel that explores the true meaning of life. At the beginning of the
novel, we are introduced to Eddie, an 83-year-old war veteran and
maintenance man for an amusement park on the last day of his life.
After Eddie dies, five spiritual guides lead Eddie through a series of
flashbacks on a journey through his life; we become acquainted with the
significant people and pivotal events that have shaped Eddie into the
man he has become. Please call the library at (517) 796-8622, Sunday
through Friday to register for the book club.
-
Genealogy @ JCC: Closer my
God to Thee! Exploring Church Records, 2 p.m. June 25, Federer A, Potter
Center. Births, marriage
and deaths were often recorded by the state, but each state started
keeping track of these records at different periods of time. How do you
find the birth, marriage and death of your ancestors before state
records were in existence? You search church records! Instead of birth
records, churches recorded baptisms. Instead of death records, churches
recorded burials of their members. Learn how to effectively use church
records to place your ancestor at a specific place and time. Find clues
to identifying your ancestor's religious affiliation. You'll learn how
you can tap into church records for various religious denominations.
Please call the library at (517) 796-8622, Sunday through Friday to
register for this free library workshop.
