For immediate release Autumn Hike Set for Dahlem Center2 p.m. Sunday, November 14, Dahlem CenterIf falling leaves and cooler temps make you want to hibernate, think spring! Join the foray along the Dahlem Center trails in search of any remaining blooms and search for seeds in a walk scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 14. Plants use ingenious methods to survive Michigan winters and ensure the success of their offspring. Naturalist Diane Valen is planning a variety of simulations, demonstrations and other fun, educational experiences during the hike to help illustrate the diversity of wild plants found within easy walking distance. Participants will encounter poppers, floaters, flyers and other wonders as they investigate where all the flowers have gone. Animals play a role as well and won't be ignored. A stop at the feeding station and a search for critter tracks and traces will also be included. Would be participants should dress for the weather and plan to meet at the visitor building, located at 7117 S. Jackson Road. The program fee is $3 per person, and pre-registration is requested. To register or obtain more information, call 782-3453 during Dahlem office hours, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday though Friday. |
