Nature Focus at Holiday Bazaar

December 3-4, Federer Rooms, Potter Center

Music will fill the air and the scent of beeswax (candles), evergreens and baked goods will waft from the Federer Rooms in JCC's Potter Center when Dahlem Center hosts their annual Holiday Bazaar on December 3-4.  Hours for this year's bazaar are 12-4 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.

What sets this Holiday Bazaar apart is that it has a nature theme and caters to the wants and needs of outdoor lovers of all ages.  Make out your shopping list, but be sure to leave room for unusual items like snowman-making kits (complete with corncob pipes), hand-cast and beaded masks, and beeswax candles.  Volunteer crafters have also let their imaginations run wild and created "gourd-geous" art objects, baskets, vases, bird houses and other one-of-a-kind items from donated gourds.

Other sale items include: hand-crafted gifts & tree trims, fresh wreaths & door sprays, bird-feeding supplies & seed, nature-related books, hand-knit items, animal puppets, children's books, jewelry, clothing and the famous Friends of Dahlem "bake sale."  Please note that Ted Black will also be on hand to autograph copies of his newly released "Birds of Michigan" field guide.

In addition to sale items, the Bazaar includes a variety of other activities to foster holiday cheer.  Musical interludes are scheduled with duets by Barbara Borton on dulcimer and Bernie Riggs on guitar from 12-2:30 on Saturday afternoon.  Shoppers can also join their voices with the Bazaar's volunteer carolers at 12 & 2 on Saturday.  Bring the kids along on Saturday from 1-3 p.m. for a free make'n'take craft session.

Handmade items, wreaths and baked goods are created and donated by volunteers with 100 percent of proceeds going to support educational programs and services of the Dahlem Environmental Education Center.  For more information or to donate craft items or baked goods, call (517) 782-3453.
