JCC & Jackson County Intermediate School District:

Working together to expand career opportunities for students

Jackson Community College and the Jackson Intermediate School District are collaborating to offer a number of new programs coming in Fall 2005 that will expand educational opportunities for Jackson County students and ease transition for students moving from the Career Center to the College after graduation.

"Over the years, Jackson Community College and the Jackson Area Career Center have cooperated on a number of educational endeavors for students," said JCC President Daniel J. Phelan.  "These new programs will expand our cooperative efforts and offer a number of new and improved career programs for students to pursue."

JCC will utilize existing space at the Career Center from 3 p.m. and into the evenings for these new offerings.  Programs currently under development include:  graphic/video technologies, autobody technologies, residential construction technologies, and heating, ventilation and air condition (HVAC).

John Graves, superintendent of the JCISD, added that this latest effort will strengthen that partnership between JCC and the Jackson County Intermediate School District and move it into the future.  "I think our shared objective is to provide students with access to opportunities that will get them into successful careers," Graves said.  "Anything that we can do to help do that is something we are interested in."

All of these career fields show promise of increasing job opportunities in the future, according to the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth labor market statistics.  The College will begin offering classes in the Fall, with full associate degree and certificate programs under development.
