Student Art Exhibition takes cool city tone 6 p.m. Friday, May 6, ART 634
Jackson Community College studio art students will exhibit their creativity at a Student Art Exhibition, to be presented in downtown Jackson at ART 634, 634 N. Mechanic St., from 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 6. "This is what the whole 'cool cities' initiative is all about, coming downtown on a Friday night and looking at art in a great urban space," said Tom Oakley, assistant professor of art. "The energy at last year's show was incredible, with people of all ages coming out to see what the art students had been up to that year. The weather may have been bad, but that didn't stop over 150 folks from coming down to see the show." Oakley credits the help of all the instructors, Ave' Veneklasen, Tracy Jackson-Smith, and Cherry Conrad, with the success. "It's a true group effort within the studio art department. I am very lucky to work with such talented, creative and dedicated instructors," he said. He also thanks Steve Sayles for use of the space at ART 634. Music for the show will be presented by JCC guitar students and the group Bottoms Up, and refreshments will be served. For more information, contact Oakley at (517) 796-8577. -30- |
