JCC hosts 2005 Commencement ceremony 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, Potter Center
Jackson Community College hosts 2005 Commencement exercises on Wednesday, May 11, at 7:30 p.m. in the Harold Sheffer Music Hall, Potter Center. Keynote speaker for the 2005 Commencement activities will be Sandy Petykiewicz, publisher of the Jackson Citizen Patriot. Petykiewicz has been publisher of the Jackson Citizen Patriot since 1999. As publisher, she oversees all aspects of the newspaper's operation -- editorial, advertising, production, delivery and commercial printing. Before being named publisher, Petykiewicz was editor of the Citizen Patriot for 12 years. During that time, the newspaper twice was named top newspaper in its circulation class by the University Press Club of Michigan, and twice was named "Michigan's Best" by the Michigan Press Association. It also received numerous awards for reporting, writing, photography and design. She came to Jackson in 1983 to be the newspaper's metro editor, supervising local news coverage. The College will also present the Dr. Ethelene Jones Crockett Distinguished Alumni Award and the Distinguished Service Award. The Crockett Award is being presented to Brian C. Walker, JCC alumnus and current president and chief executive officer of Herman Miller, Inc., office furniture manufacturer based in Zeeland, Mich. The Distinguished Service Award will be presented to John Crist, president and CEO of CP Federal Credit Union and community volunteer actively involved in numerous causes in Jackson County. Also taking part in the activities will be JCC Student Parliament President Pete Pallesen, of Jackson, and graduating class representative Tiffany Bird, of Jackson. JCC hosts commencement each spring for students who complete their requirements from the previous four semesters. Also participating in the ceremony will be the Jackson Community Concert Band and JCC Concert Choir.
