Local college students win Michigan Campus Compact Award:Students want more than a degree; they want to make a difference
LANSING -- Michigan Campus Compact (MCC) is pleased to announce that college students attending Jackson Community College have been honored for their dedication and commitment to community service. MCC annually awards students from colleges and universities across the state. Three types of awards are given: the Outstanding Community Impact Award, the Commitment to Service Award and the Heart and Soul Award. Charles DeGroote received the Commitment to Service Award, which honors students for their community service at individual college and university campuses as part of their education throughout their college career. Only 20 students were honored this year with this award. Tiffany Bird, Penny Murray and Kaydee Pelham received the Heart and Soul Award, which recognizes students for their time, effort, and personal commitment through service. Michigan Campus Compact honored all award recipients at an awards brunch on Saturday, April 16, 2005 at the Kellogg Center in East Lansing, Mich. Michigan Campus Compact is a state-level non-profit organization that promotes the education and commitment of Michigan college students to be civically engaged citizens, through creating and expanding academic, co-curricular and campus-wide opportunities for community service, service-learning and civic engagement. -30- |
