Potter Center season includes variety of entertainment
Get set for great music, comedy and drama when the Potter Center at Jackson Community College ushers in its 2005-06 season of entertainment! ˇ Kicking off the season will be country music legend Vince Gill, performing at 8 p.m. Oct. 15. Gill is a superstar with 15 Grammy Awards, 18 CMA honors (including two Entertainer of the Year honors and four Song of the Year honors), and 22 million in album sales. His most recent work is "Next Big Thing," his 11th recording with MCA. ˇ Blast! comes to the Potter Center at 8 p.m. Oct. 29. Blast! Is the winner of the 2001 Tony Award for "Best Special Theatrical Event" and the 2001 Emmy Award for "Best Choreography." It is musical spectacle, ranging from classical to the blues; it is jazz, rock and roll, and techno-pop. ˇ The high-energy music of the Canadian family act, Leahy, will perform at 8 p.m. Nov. 12. This multi-talented musical collective has opened for country superstar Shania Twain and combines instrumental and vocal music with lively step dancing and a stage performance that's sure to please. ˇ Jim Brickman returns to the Potter stage for a holiday performance at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 1. Known for his romantic chart-topping hits, Jim Brickman has achieved remarkable success in a wide array of musical genres, from Adult Contemporary to Country to Contemporary Christian. Brickman's distinctive piano virtuosity has personified pure romance for audiences of all ages. ˇ Anne Murray performs a holiday concert at 8 p.m. Dec. 17. For 30 years, Anne Murray has been entertaining audiences around the world, with signature hits like "Snowbird," "Love Song," "You Needed Me," and more. She released an inspirational album in 1999, "What a Wonderful World," that went platinum, and she continues to record and perform. ˇ The Artie Shaw Orchestra will perform at 8 p.m. Jan. 14, 2006. Artie Shaw made his mark in the music world with his clarinet and as a bandleader, and his compositions include the famous "Begin the Beguine," "Frenesi," and a classic rendition of "Star Dust." He launched his still-touring orchestra in 1983, and the 16-piece ensemble has performed favorites around the world. ˇ Comedienne Paula Poundstone performs at 7 p.m. Jan. 29, 2006. Known for her honesty, and an off-kilter view of the world, Poundstone continues to be one of the country's funniest stand-up comics working today. She is a veteran of "The Tonight Show" and "David Letterman." Her unmatched spontaneity, quick wit and her ability to improvise with her audience is legendary. ˇ The 5th Dimension takes the stage at 8 p.m. Feb. 3, 2006. The 5th Dimension headline in Las Vegas and Atlantic City regularly and continue to appeal to a wide audience with their upbeat, easy listening sound. They have released over a dozen hit albums and received 14 gold records, including such hits as "Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In," "One Less Bell to Answer," "Up, Up and Away," "Wedding Bell Blues," and "Go Where You Wanna Go." ˇ 42nd Street, winner of the 2001 Tony Award for "Best Musical Revival," will be presented at 4 p.m. March 5, 2006. This musical tells the timeless, inspiring tale of the young ingénue who rises from the chorus to become a Broadway star and features such Broadway standards as: "We're in the Money," "Shuffle Off To Buffalo," "Lullaby of Broadway," "I Only Have Eyes For You," and, of course, the spectacular title number, "42nd Street," dazzlingly danced down a flight of steps. ˇ The Ten Tenors will perform at 7 p.m. April 2, 2006. In 1995, while studying for careers in legitimate opera, The Ten Tenors joined forces as the headline act for the birthday celebration gala of a major Australian television network. With requests for repeat performances, the group soon became the main focus for each of the tenors' artistic talents. The Ten Tenors debuted in March 2003 to rave reviews in the U.S.A., performing a unique mix of pop hit covers and classical operatic works. ˇ Revolution: The Beatles Tribute will perform at 8 p.m. April 7, 2006. The band that goes beyond Beatlemania is the leading worldwide touring show capturing the Beatles with authentic instruments, costume, sound and excitement! Revolution takes on the personalities of the Beatles and captures the essence of the four young men whose music continues to win the hearts of millions. ˇ One performer and date remain to be announced.
