Fourth Tuesday time for poetry in Jackson

Poetry will be on the menu at the Thunderbird Café as Jackson Community College hosts the Fourth Tuesday Poetry Night, at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24.

The Fourth Tuesday Poetry Night will be the first in a monthly series of readings at the Thunderbird, hosted by Dave DeBaker and John Yohe, adjunct instructors at JCC. This first event will feature Heather Abner and Kawita Kandpal, who are both currently teaching writing at JCC. Abner holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in poetry writing from the University of Michigan, and Kandpal holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in poetry writing from Bowling Green State University and is a writer in residence with the Detroit Public Schools. Kandpal has been published in three national publications, Tri Quarterly, puerto del sol, and Current. There will also be semi-open mic time for creative writing students from JCC.

The Thunderbird Café is located at 129 E. Michigan Ave., Jackson.
