Wine making, testing topics of new classes

Are you a connoisseur of wine? JCC will host two lifetime learning courses for enjoyment in coming weeks, "Elements of Taste" and "Introduction to Wine Making."

"Elements of Taste," on Saturday, Feb. 11th will be a fun evening of tasting food paired with various wines, the night begins with a social hour at 5:30 p.m., and a program from 6:30 to 9 p.m., at JCC@VO-TECH in Adrian. There is a fee of $35, and you must be 21 to register. There will be a harpist from the Adrian Symphony performing during the social hour, and hors d'oeuvres will be served. Tours of JCC@VO-TECH will also be available. This evening will go through seven to 10 styles of wines to demonstrate how the fats, sugars, salts and acids of the food interact to complement or detract from the wine, as well as the University of California - Davis method on how to score wines, basic glassware and etiquette.

Have you ever been intrigued at the prospect of making wine? "Introduction to Wine Making" will be offered in McDivitt Hall 107 on main campus on Feb. 21, 23, 28 and March 16, from 7-9 p.m., for a fee of $87. Learn all about the wine making processing while making your own wine. Included in the course will be a brief history of wine making, necessary equipment, starting yeast, racking, chemicals, fining agents and bottling. Equipment will be included in the price of the course, and juice will need to be purchased separately through the instructor, prices will ranging from $60 to $100. Students must be at least 21 to register.
