3/1/06 For immediate release V.P. Strohaver honored for outstanding leadership
Jackson Community College is pleased to announce that William Strohaver, executive vice president of educational and student services, recently received The Chair Academy's 2006 International Exemplary Leader Award. "Those of us who work directly for him can attest to his dedication and commitment, his steadfast support of so many important JCC initiatives, his guidance and talent in dealing with difficult situations, and his encouragement of professional development," his nomination reads. Strohaver has worked for Jackson Community College since 1968, nearly four decades. He taught political science for 25 years, and in 1995 became dean of faculty, in 1999 vice president of instruction, and in 2001 executive vice president in charge of education and student services. Strohaver was both proud and humbled by the honor. "I am humbled by the comments my fellow administrators and staff have made about me," he said. When leading others, he tries to create an atmosphere where people can dream, and then helps them make those dreams come true and bring their ideas to fruition. His nomination letter continues, "Bill's most striking contribution is his ability to create a positive work environment. He not only listens to people but seeks out opinions and ideas. He is not afraid to make a decision and stand by it, even when it might not be the most popular decision. He keeps his composure under stress and maintains his sense of humor." Strohaver will be honored at the Chair Academy's 15th Annual International Conference, Celebrating the Diversity of Leadership, coming in April in Tucson, Ariz. The Chair Academy is a worldwide learning training organization for postsecondary leaders. Those nominating Strohaver for this honor include Christine Beacco, Steve Bloomfield, Marian Burlingham, Charlotte Finnegan, Angel Fonseca, Ann Green, Julie Hand, Rose Klee, Joyce Lockman, Mike Masters and Pene Vandenburgh. |
