JCC to break ground on new information & technology center

Jackson Community College will break ground for the first new building on the main campus in 25 years, the information and technology center William N. Atkinson Hall, at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, May 22.

Plans are for the new information and technology center to be a two-story, 55,000-square-foot building located between the Potter Center and McDivitt Hall on main campus. It will bring together a variety of learning resources into one location, the traditional library stacks and reference materials along with expanded information technology resources such as a large, open-access computer lab, multiple “smart” and multimedia classrooms, training areas and more. In addition, all of the campus’s information technology services personnel, who maintain the campus student and employee computers and networks, will be relocated there.

Participating in the ground-breaking ceremony will be President Daniel J. Phelan, JCC Board of Trustees members, and as of the time of the release, state Sen. Mark Schauer and state Rep. Rick Baxter.

Construction is expected to be complete by summer 2007.
