June 13th, 2006 For immediate release JCC Jets gain spot in MCCAA
Jackson Community College will be part of the Michigan Community College Athletic Association when it begins competing this fall. At a MCCAA athletic directors meeting last week, representatives unanimously approved JCC as a provisional member of the association for one year, meaning the College needs to have regularly scheduled league games but cannot compete for league titles and awards this first year. JCC can participate in regional and national events during this provisional year. After the first year, JCC will be eligible for full membership, according to Athletic Director Stephen Bloomfield. JCC's Board of Trustees approved the return of sports to the College at its April meeting. Beginning in fall, women's and men's cross country will begin. In spring 2007, women's softball and men's baseball will begin. In fall 2007, women's volleyball and men's and women's basketball will begin. The College will also be part of the National Junior College Athletic Association. It will compete at Divison II level for all sports except cross country (there is no NJCAA Division II in cross country). |
