JCC adds new digital photography class
Do you own a digital camera but aren't sure how everything works? Jackson Community College will offer a new digital photography class this fall.
This new class, ART/CIS 137 Digital Photography, will help take some of the mystery out of digital photography. According to Photo Marketing Association International, more than five million digital cameras were sold last Christmas. Many users don't know how to fully use their cameras, but would like to, said instructor Thomas Gilpin. This class should help provide answers.
Gilpin is a local photographer who acquired Byerly Studio in March 2004. Byerly's has been a part of the Jackson community for 51 years, and they opened their second studio in June 2004. They've converted both studios to digital, established a web site and now post images (electronic proofs) to the web site within 24 hours for clients. The new studio boasts five acres and nine buildings and is located northwest of Jackson. Gilpin has been with Photo Marketing Association, International for 13 years. He also worked for five years with Foto 1 Imaging in Ann Arbor, and three years with Meteor Photo & Imaging in Troy.
Gilpin current sits on Lansing Community College's advisory board for their photo/imaging program, and is a current board member of the Lansing Advertising Club. He taught photojournalism at JCC last winter. He has photographed four U.S. presidents and has been published in numerous publications.
ART/CIS 137 will be offered from 8 to 10:55 a.m. Fridays in Bert Walker Hall, Room 107. For more information, visit us online at www.jccmi.edu, or call (517) 796-8425.
Note: CIS is the abbreviation for Computer Information Systems.
