Lunch Around the World planned, Peace Pole to be dedicated

Sample some international fare and join in the dedication of a new Peace Pole when Jackson Community College hosts a special Lunch Around the World, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12 in Federer Rooms A & B, Potter Center. The Peace Pole dedication will be held at 12:30 p.m. in the courtyard.

JCC has installed a Peace Pole monument outside of the Potter Center cafeteria, which spells out “May Peace Prevail On Earth” in 12 languages. JCC has student, faculty, staff and administrative representation from around the world, and a survey was conducted to decide the 12 languages displayed on the peace pole: English, Spanish, German, French, Russian, Chinese, Arabic, Italian, Hebrew, Greek, Korean, and Navajo. It is a symbol on the JCC campus which represents global peace, harmony and togetherness. There are currently more than 200,000 Peace Poles in 180 countries displayed around the world.

Community members are invited to the lunch and may purchase passport tickets for a suggested $2 donation. They are available at the door, or in advance from the Center for Student Success, Bert Walker Room 123, or the Office of Multicultural Relations, Potter Center Room 213.
