Jackson Community Concert Band to kick off 20th season with concert
The Jackson Community Concert Band will kick off its 20th season with a concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 19 in the Sheffer Music Hall, Potter Center.
The featured composition will be Ottorino Respighi’s fantastic tone painting The Pines of Rome, transcribed for band by Guy M. Duker. Two band members, Robert Woodard and Bruce Wright, will perform Herbert L. Clarke’s Cousins, for solo trumpet and trombone. Other works will include Irish Tune from County Derry, by Percy Grainger, Jubilance, by Caesar Giovaninni, and Easter Monday on the White House Lawn by John Philip Sousa.
The Jackson Community Concert Band was established in 1987 and fills a unique position among the musical opportunities in Jackson. Membership of the band is open to JCC students and community members. Conductor Ron Douglass has directed the band for its 20 years and notes that several members have been part of the group since it began.
“Time and time again, the membership of the band has proven to be just as important as the great music that we have performed. The Jackson Community Concert Band is about much more than the music. The collective work of the players creates a musical product that is important to all of us, every week. It is a special benefit that several times a year we can, through our concerts, share this great experience with the public,” Douglass said.
Don’t miss this enjoyable afternoon of music! Tickets for the concert are $5 and may be purchased at the Potter Center Ticket Office, 517.796.8600.
