JCC offering assistance and hope for displaced employees and those facing layoffs and job uncertainty

Difficult times, the changing global economy and the ever increasing prospect of losing your job, has inspired Jackson Community College to pull together resources and provide hope in time for the holidays. “Holidays are stressful enough in good times, but for those who have lost their jobs or are in the process, it’s incredibly stressful on the individual and their family members”, said JCC President Daniel J. Phelan, Ph.D.

South Central State Employees Credit Union donates $20,000 to criminal justice, science studies

Jackson Community College students will soon be able to do some of the same science they see on popular crime shows like “CSI” or in today’s increasingly scientific criminal case investigations. The College is pleased to announce a nearly $20,000 donation from South Central State Employees Credit Union toward the purchase of classroom and laboratory equipment for criminal justice and science classes to do “CSI”-type investigation and experiments.

‘I Never Saw Another Butterfly’ explores lives of Jewish children in Holocaust

November 27th, 2006

Jackson Community College’s Drama Club will present a life-affirming drama that looks at the lives of children caught in the Holocaust of Nazi Germany in World War II in “I Never Saw Another Butterfly,” a play by Celeste Raspanti, to be presented at 8 p.m. Dec. 7, 8 and 9 in Ruth Day Theatre, Potter Center.

Poetry Night to feature Petry, Davies, JCC students

Poetry will be in the spotlight at the Nomad Bookhouse as Jackson Community College Professor Martha Petry and JCC alumna Betsy Davies present their works. The next Poetry Night planned for 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, at the Nomad Bookhouse, 229 S. Mechanic St., Jackson.

Oak Ridge Boys bring Christmas show to Potter Center

Jackson Community College will begin registration for Winter 2007 on Monday, Nov. 27 for all students at all locations. Returning students may register online beginning Nov. 18. Winter semester begins Jan. 8.

JCC cross country runner Jessica Olds finishes in top half at nationals

November 8th, 2006

Congratulations to Jackson Community College cross country runner Jessica Olds, who finished in the top half at the National Junior College Athletic Association Championship, Division I, this past weekend in El Paso, Texas. Olds finished 88th out of a field of 199, with a time of 21:33 in the 5K run.

JCC, Jackson Literacy Coalition receives grant for Big Read program to celebrate ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’

Jackson Community College is pleased to announce that Jackson was recently selected to receive a $20,000 grant funded by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) to support a Big Read community reading program. JCC, along with several community partners in the Jackson Literacy Coalition, have planned a series of activities for March 2007 centered around the classic work by Harper Lee, “To Kill a Mockingbird.”
