JCC welcomes Jackson Pastor James Hines to Project Success Day

Jackson Community College will welcome the Rev. James Hines of Jackson’s Lily Missionary Baptist Church as keynote speaker for the Winter semester Project Success Day, on Tuesday, Feb. 6. He will speak at 11 a.m. in the Michael Baughman Theater, Potter Center. Hines will speak on volunteerism and community service, and the public is welcome.

Pastor Hines has led his church since 1988, and raised $4 million to build the Lily Missions Center, an academic and recreational facility for youth. He has worked diligently to provide opportunities for young people to connect with others for fun, recreation and educational opportunities. He was recognized by the Jackson Citizen Patriot as the Citizen of the Year in 2002 and, in 2006, received JCC’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Medal of Service Award.

Project Success Day is a special day set aside at JCC when students have the opportunity to participate in workshops that improve their ability to succeed in college, and regular classes are cancelled. Workshops will be held throughout the day on a variety of topics, including: stress management; relationship skills; alumni panels discussing tips to succeed after JCC; workshops on math and writing skills; proper documentation in writing research papers; careers in nursing, teaching, corrections, or political science; developing a study group; career exploration; and more. In addition, the day includes a free lunch, entertainment, raffles and more for students.
