April 2nd, 2007 For immediate release Jackson Community College Students to Receive Michigan Campus Compact Award for Dedication to Community Service
Lansing, MI - Michigan Campus Compact (MCC) is pleased to announce five students from Jackson Community College will be awarded for their dedication and commitment to community service during the 11th annual Outstanding Student Service Awards, April 14, 2007 at the Kellogg Center in East Lansing, Mich. Each year, MCC awards students from member colleges and universities across the state for their outstanding commitment to service-learning and civic engagement. Four types of awards are given: the Outstanding Community Impact Award, the Commitment to Service Award, the Heart and Soul Award and the Michigan Humanitarian Award. This year, 109 students from 25 member campuses will receive awards. Awardees were selected from a nomination pool of more than 400 students. Megan Keersmaekers, of Jackson, will receive the Outstanding Community Impact Award. This award is given to five undergraduate students and one graduate student from the state of Michigan for their outstanding dedication to community service and civic engagement. Patricia Kelley Emerson, of Brooklyn, will receive the Commitment to Service Award. This award is given to one student per campus in the state of Michigan for their breadth and/or depth of community service. Brad Bice, Peter Pallesen and Stacey Roberts will receive the Heart and Soul Awards. This award is given to students to recognize their time, effort and personal commitment through service.
