May 25th, 2007 For immediate release JCC Jets hockey to take to ice againHockey is making a comeback at Jackson Community College! Beginning next Fall, JCC Jets club hockey will return to the College. Steve Bloomfield, JCC’s assistant dean for student life, said a number of local community members spoke with President Daniel J. Phelan regarding their desire to see hockey brought back and also came forward with a proposal for how it will run. After meeting with this group of individuals and examining their plan, the College agreed to move forward with plans for a new team. JCC Jets hockey was discontinued in 2005 after three seasons due to lack of funding. The College has applied for admission into the American Collegiate Hockey Association and is awaiting final approval. Officials are currently advertising for a head coach. The team will be open to men and women, and there will be a cost to players, which is yet undetermined. Open skating sessions will be planned in August at the Optimist Ice Arena in Jackson for coaches to learn about interested players, and team tryouts will be held in September.
