MCCAA votes unanimously to make JCC full member

Jackson Community College is pleased to announce that the College has been fully accepted as a regular member of the Michigan Community College Athletic Association league.

The College joined the MCCAA a year ago as a provisional member after reinstating intercollegiate athletics following a 25-year absence. At the annual MCCAA meeting for athletic directors held earlier this week, members voted unanimously to admit JCC as full members of the league again, JCC Athletic Director Steve Bloomfield said. Full membership allows JCC teams to compete for league and conference titles, and enables athletes to compete for individual league awards.

“The MCCAA is very pleased to have Jackson Community College join our association as a regular member,” said Gene Gifford, president of MCCAA and athletic director for Muskegon Community College. “We have been very impressed by the College’s plan to implement their athletic program and the progress they have made to this point. Steve Bloomfield has demonstrated tremendous leadership, dedication and commitment and has been a joy for all of us to work with. He is a class act.”

JCC launched the first phase of its new sports program in 2006-07, with men’s and women’s cross country, men’s baseball and women’s softball. Those will continue this coming year, and women’s volleyball and men’s and women’s basketball will begin as well.

“I am really excited that we are full members after a year of hard work by athletes, staff, faculty and administration,” Bloomfield said. “This is great for the College.”

The MCCAA is comprised of 19 members, 18 from Michigan and one from Indiana.
