JCC students honored at LAND Conference

Jackson Community College is pleased to congratulate
Richard Bruce and Christopher Konieczki, both
of Jackson, on their wins Saturday at the Michigan Liberal Arts Network for
Development (LAND) 12th Annual Conference for Student Scholars at Michigan
Two-Year Colleges.
Bruce and Konieczki were two of five JCC students invited
to present papers at the Student Scholars Conference held Saturday at Henry Ford
Community College.
Bruce’s essay, “Heavy Leather Gloves,” took top honors in
the literature category. Konieczki’s essay, “Education for a New Generation,”
was selected as best in the technology category. Both
receive a monetary award,
and each will have his essay
published in full. All finalists have the
abstract
from their essays published.
The Student Scholars competition is designed to encourage
and reward quality academic work by students in community colleges. The best
research papers from a variety of subject areas
are nominated by faculty, and semi-finalists are selected for presentation at
the conference. Papers are chosen in categories ranging from science, literature
and technology to health sciences and multicultural studies. The 2008 conference
will be hosted by Wayne County Community College.
