High school students invited to One-Act Play Festival
Jackson Community College, with the support of local theatre groups, Center Stage Jackson and Left of Center, will host a one-act play competition for high schools in March of 2008.
Now in its second year, student casts and technical crews are invited to present a one-act play that is 10 to 15 minutes long and appropriate for general audiences. The event is open to all high schools in Jackson County, but participation is limited to the first eight schools that apply. Student casts of two to five players, and a crew consisting of student technical director, student stage manager and one student crew member required. Entry fee is $45.
The event is coordinated by Sandy DiCesare, coordinator of educational theatre at JCC. “We had a great event for the inaugural year in 2007, and we hope 2008 will be even better,” DiCesare said. “It is wonderful to have an event that showcases high school drama.”
Among the awards to be presented are: first, second and third place in Best Actor and Best Actress categories, Best Technical Director, Best Stage Manager and Best Crew. A trophy will be awarded for Best Overall Performance, and scholarships will be given for each student in the Best Overall Performance, up to eight. There will be additional awards and recognitions. All schools and participating students will receive a Certificate of Participation.
Applications are due by Dec. 1, 2007. For complete information, contact Sandy DiCesare at 517.796.8625.
