JCC student’s experience in Coast Guard leads to winning essay

Jackson Community College student W. Nathan Walters marveled as to why some people risked their lives to get into this country during his tour with the U.S. Coast Guard. He wrote about his experiences in an essay that was recently received first place in a writing contest from the Liberal Arts Network for Development, or LAND, for non-fiction.
Cyber defense team to move on to regionals

In their first contest, Jackson Community College’s cyber defense team took second place in the recent Michigan/Ohio Collegiate Cyber Defense competition held at Eastern Michigan University on Feb. 16-18, out of seven teams competing. The team now qualifies to move on to the Midwest Regional competition at Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills, Ill., on March 16 through 18.
Biographer to visit Jackson to kick off Big Read events

Jackson Community College and the Jackson Literacy Coalition are pleased to present the Big Read, a communitywide effort in March to encourage people to get reading, focusing on “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee.
JCC nursing students shine on licensing exams

Jackson Community College nursing students have performed well above the norm on the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) for nurses for the fourth quarter of 2006, with 100 percent of 45 graduates passing on their first attempt. JCC’s licensed practical nursing program continues to produce outstanding results, as 100 percent of graduates have passed for the last two years’ graduating classes.
SkillsUSA automotive competition welcomes career center students to JCC

Jackson Community College will welcome more than 80 high school students from Michigan for the SkillsUSA/VICA of Michigan Regional Competition on Thursday, February 22, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the JCC Automotive Service Technology Building.
