Band's 22nd season begins with fall concert featuring new compositions

The Jackson Community Concert Band will kick off its 22nd season at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 9 with a program that includes new and exciting compositions for concert band.

Band members Bob Woodard, trombone and Ed Tappan, trumpet, will be featured in a wonderful work, “Fandango,” by Joseph Turrin. Also included on the program are “Sojourn,” by Aaron Strang, “The American Hymnsong Suite” by Dwayne Milburn, “Traffic” by Thomas Dos, and a rhythmic tour-de-force, “Bulgarian Dances” by Franco Cesarini. A Jackson concert wouldn’t be the same without homage to tradition, and the band will also perform “Australian Up-Country Tune” by Percy Grainger, and “Pride of the Wolverines” by John Philip Sousa.

The concert will be presented in the magnificent Harold Sheffer Music Hall in JCC’s Potter Center. Tickets are only $5 and may be purchased at the Potter Center Box Office or at the door.

The Jackson Community Concert Band is comprised of JCC students and community members, under the direction of Conductor Ronald L. Douglass, associate professor of music.
