Travis Tritt, Jerry Douglas coming to Potter Center in February

Just in time for holiday gift-giving, Jackson Community College has added country superstar Travis Tritt and noted Dobro guitarist Jerry Douglas to its entertainment season. Tickets will be available Monday, Nov. 24 for an acoustic evening with Tritt and Douglas, 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009 in the Harold Sheffer Music Hall, Potter Center.

Travis Tritt has been a leading country artist since the early 1990s, with a string of platinum albums, Top Ten singles and number one hits, like “Help Me Hold On,” “Anymore,” “Here’s a Quarter (Call Someone Who Cares),” “Can I Trust You With My Heart” and “Best of Intentions.” He has received two Grammy Awards and three Country Music Association Awards.

On Tritt’s latest release, “The Storm,” he teamed up with producer Randy Jackson to produce a powerhouse collection of songs that emphasize the irresistible soul side of Tritt’s singing. The first single from the album is “You Never Take Me Dancing,” written by Richard Marx, who also collaborated with Tritt on “Doesn’t the Good Outweigh the Bad.”

Travis Tritt debuted on the scene in 1989 with “Country Club,” and his second release in 1991, “It’s All About to Change,” reached multi-platinum status. He followed that up in 1992 with “T-R-O-U-B-L-E,” which contained the number one single, “Can I Trust You With My Heart” and went gold. In 1994, Tritt’s next album, “Ten Feet Tall & Bulletproof” went platinum and spawned the number one single, “Foolish Pride,” which also reached number 20 on the pop charts. His “Greatest Hits: From the Beginning” was release in 1995 and went platinum; “Restless Kind” was released in 1996, followed two years later by “No More Looking Over My Shoulder,” and in 2000, “Down the Road I Go” was released, which went platinum. In 2002, he released “Strong Enough,” and in 2004, “My Honky Tonk History.”

Performing with Travis Tritt will be Jerry Douglas, who has been recording and performing for years with his own eclectic style of playing Dobro and other resonator and slide guitars. He’s performed with groups such as the Country Gentlemen, New South, Boone Creek and the Whites, and has had a successful solo career. His latest CD, “Glide,” contains the sounds of Bourbon Street, Dixieland, a Scottish-sounding jig and more, revealing his flexibility and mastery in his music. He has won eight Grammy Awards.

Tickets for the concert are $45, $40 and $32 and will be available by calling the Potter Center Box Office at 517.796.8600, or online at www.jccmi.edu
