'Winter Dance Party' tour pays tribute to legendary 1950s rockers

Jive to the sounds of the 1950s’ greats Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens when Jackson Community College presents John Mueller’s “Winter Dance Party” in concert at 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009 in the Harold Sheffer Music Hall, Potter Center.

“Winter Dance Party” is the official tribute show for these three legendary rock ’n’ roll artists final tour, and the only show endorsed by the Holly, Valens and Richardson estates. This is the tribute show’s 10th season, and 2009 marks the 50th anniversary of the plane crash that claimed the lives of Buddy Holly, J.P. “Big Bopper” Richardson and Ritchie Valens.

John Mueller is the critically acclaimed former star of the U.S. touring version of the hit musical “Buddy… the Buddy Holly Story,” and performs as Holly. Jay P. Richardson Jr. fills his legendary father’s footsteps as the Big Bopper, and brings with him the heritage and feeling that only he can offer. Ray Anthony performs as Ritchie Valens and is a renowned star of the “Legends of Rock and Roll” show in Las Vegas.  Rounding out the performance is an authentic and energetic four-piece band that includes Grammy award-winning Mike Acosta on saxophone, George Mueller on lead guitar, Ed Maxwell on stand-up bass, and Mark Micklethwaite or Sammy K on drums.

The Winter Dance Party show has performed in front of over 2 million people on national TV for the Jerry Lewis Telethon, and has toured extensively through the U.S. and Canada.

Tickets for John Mueller’s Winter Dance Party will be available Monday, Nov. 24 and start at $17. Purchase yours today by calling the Potter Center Box Office at 517.796.8600, or online at www.jccmi.edu.
