JCC @ LISD TECH to launch culinary classes
Get cooking with JCC @ LISD TECH!
Jackson Community College’s JCC @ LISD TECH Center will begin offering culinary classes this Winter 2009 semester in cooperation with LISD TECH Adult Learning Services.
Like other cooperative efforts between JCC and the LISD TECH Center, the College will utilize LISD lab space, and students may register for credit through JCC or with the LISD TECH Center for personal interest (not for credit). Courses include:
- CUL 110 Sanitation and Hygiene, which covers the issue of sanitation and the importance of good personal hygiene. Students will be introduced to different types of microorganisms and will learn how to properly handle and prepare foods so that customers will not become ill from consuming contaminated foods. Course meets from 6-9:05 p.m. Tuesdays from Jan. 20 through May 12.
- CUL 120 Culinary Skills, which introduces the student to the principles of quantity food production, fabricating techniques, recipe conversions, costing, product identification and classical culinary skills. Students will also learn how to operate and care for equipment, along with maintaining a safe and sanitary environment. Course meets from 6 to 9:52 p.m. Jan. 21 through May 7.
