For immediate release Genetics Update Conference poses scientific, ethical questionsJackson Community College will host a Genetics Update Conference with noted educator and speaker Sam Rhine on Thursday, Feb. 28 in the Harold Sheffer Music Hall, Potter Center, on the Jackson campus. Sam Rhine has visited JCC for several years to share the latest info with high school and college students regarding developments in the field of genetics research. These one-day conferences for biology teachers and students are designed to teach the latest in genetic advances, hot research areas and career opportunities. Rhine takes biology from the textbook to the heart by posing ethical dilemmas each will face as technological advances continue. Rhine is an adjunct instructor with Indiana University, and lectures to teachers, nurses and students across the U.S. annually. He has taught classes at several colleges and universities, and he has made more than 8,500 presentations for over 3,750,000 teenagers in the United States, Canada and Europe. He has been Indiana Academy of Science “Speaker of the Year” and Indiana Academy of Pediatrics National “Speaker of the Year” Nominee. This conference will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with registration starting at 8:30 a.m. Topics include emerging new concepts in molecular biology, how genes cause cancer, new stem cell technologies, and much more. This conference is free to JCC students and staff with identification.
