JCC kicks off 80th anniversary with a celebration that promises something for everyone

Join Jackson Community College as it kicks off a celebration recognizing 80 years of service with a free Community Day on Sunday, 1-5 p.m. Feb. 24.

If you haven’t ventured out to JCC recently you will be pleasantly surprised at what administration, faculty and staff are calling the “New JCC.” In the past year JCC has made many changes and exciting additions to the campus, including a new state-of-the-art information technology building and library and student housing.

This community day will feature tours of campus and campus buildings, faculty demonstrations, food and entertainment. Visitors will also find:

  • Financial aid and admissions representatives will assist students with the FAFSA and financial aid process.
  • Sandy DiCesare, director of educational theatre, will give free backstage tours of Potter Center from 1-2 p.m.
  • Representatives from the Jackson Community College Foundation, John George Student Loan Organization, The Jackson County Community Foundation and Legacy will be here to inform students about scholarship and loan opportunities.
  • JCC students will provide face painting for kids of all ages in the Fieldhouse lobby
  • JCC’s ceramics studio will be open with Assistant Professor Tom McMillen-Oakley teaching.
  • Allied Health and nursing demonstrations of JCC’s new SimMan robotic simulators.
  • Auto instructors will offer a session called “Getting to Know Your Car”
  • The final performance of the comedy/farce “Drop Dead” will take the stage at 4 p.m. in Ruth Day Theatre, Potter Center. Tickets $10 for adults, $8 for students and senior citizens. Pick up a discount coupon in Atkinson Hall.
  • Science faculty will proved a short demonstration and assist visitors who wish to tour McDivitt Hall.
  • Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical “Cats” will take the stage in the Harold Sheffer Music Hall, Potter Center, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $50, $55 and $60.

Visitors can register for prizes, including JCC tuition vouchers. Any future students who are thinking about attending JCC are invited, as well as community members who would like to see some of the College’s new buildings and facilities. Start in Atkinson Hall to pick up a schedule of events.
