College responds to reports of underage drinking by students

Jackson Community College President Dan Phelan was notified by the Jackson City Police Department this morning of an incident involving underage drinking at a private apartment complex in Jackson County.

Police authorities shared that some of the individuals were Jackson Community College students and student athletes.

President Phelan has launched an internal investigation of the incident involving all JCC students and student athletes. If it is found that these students violated college policy, the College will pursue appropriate sanctions against the students and/or players. The student athletes could receive reduction in play time, suspension and loss of scholarship, as well as the loss of opportunity to represent Jackson Community College in any future sporting events.

Phelan expresses his deep concern for this poor choice made by the youths, but particularly our students. JCC has and will continue to educate our students on the importance of making good choices, particularly in regard to alcohol and substance abuse issues.
