Hosmer named women's soccer coach

Jackson Community College is pleased to announce that Andy Hosmer will join the sports staff as head coach for women’s soccer.

Hosmer is the varsity boys and girls soccer coach at Columbia Central High School, where he has coached for a total of nine years.  He spent three years with Jackson Christian H.S. and one year coaching junior varsity at Columbia Central.  Hosmer plans to quit coaching the boys’ team since the season conflicts with the College.  He is currently employed at Onsted Community Schools where he does grounds and maintenance work.

Hosmer said he was pleased to see the College bring athletics back and to now be instituting a soccer program as this will give so many local young athletes the opportunity to continue their sport.  His Columbia Central girls’ team won two district championships, in 2003 and 2004, and advanced to the regional finals in 2004.  He also coached at the Premier Club League level for three years and in 2004, his Premier team won their division.  He holds a United States Soccer Federation "D" License.

Hosmer played soccer at Jackson Christian (formerly Baptist) High School where he was named to the All State Team and was a member of the inaugural Citizen Patriot Dream Team for soccer in his senior season.

“I’m optimistic that we can be successful, because I know how much talent there is in the area,” Hosmer said of JCC’s fledgling program.  “This is brand new, but I know that we are definitely going to dig in and do our best.”

One of Hosmer’s first tasks will be scheduling open tryouts for the women’s soccer team, whose season begins in August.  More information will be announced regarding a schedule for tryouts.
