Hockey team becomes full member of ACHA; golf outing planned

Jackson Community College’s Jets hockey team is now a full member of the American Collegiate Hockey Association, Division 3. The team is now an affiliate member of the Michigan Collegiate Hockey Association, considered one of the best conferences in the country.

Karen Lishinski, general manager for the JCC Jets hockey, said the team was accepted into the ACHA this past Saturday after completing its provisional year. Full membership provides a number of benefits to the team and allows it to participate in regional and national playoff tournaments. JCC brought back hockey in 2007-08 after several parents and players requested its return. It is a club sport, which means players pay to participate.

To raise funds to help offset the cost for the coming season, the hockey team will host its First Annual JCC Jets Hockey Golf Scramble at 1 p.m. Friday, June 6 at Lakeland Hills Golf Course. This will be a four-person scramble format, with dinner following, door prizes for golfers, and “skins” optional. Teams may enter for $300, team and hole sponsors are $550, and hole sponsors are $250. For a brochure or more information, please contact Lishinski at 517.740.8563, or pick one up at the Optimist Ice Arena in Jackson.
