JCC Jets baseball, basketball players sign with universities
Jackson Community College Jets baseball players Jeff Mann and Steve Young and women’s basketball player Courtney Lusk have signed to play with four-year universities.
Mann will play for Madonna University Crusaders in Livonia. Mann was a pitcher for the Jets for two seasons and during his career at JCC, he had 46 earned runs, 63 strikeouts (second in school records), eight career wins (JCC school record), 92.1 innings pitched and 40 walks.
Young will play for the Wayne State University Warriors in Detroit. He was a pitcher and played first base during one season with the Jets, and his statistics include 17 earned runs, 30 strikeouts (fifth in JCC school records), four wins (third school record), 38.1 innings pitched and 26 walks. Young was also an offensive force, batting .392 (third in school record) with 20 hits and 14 runs batted in.
Lusk will play for the University of St. Francis (Fort Wayne, Ind.) Lady Cougars. Lusk, of Michigan Center, is a former all-area standout and played one year for the Jets. She was women’s basketball team captain and nominated as All-MCCAA Honorable Mention for the 2007-08 season. Lusk scored 279 points (second in JCC school records), averaged 11 points per game (fourth in school records), while chipping in 125 rebounds (second in school records) and averaging five rebounds per contest. She also led JCC with 76 assists (school record) and 38 steals (third in school records).
