Front Porch Series Take a Jazzy Turn
7 p.m. Thursday, June 3, Potter Center
Jazz lovers can tap their toes and enjoy some favorites when the Jackson Jazz Ensemble presents Jazz Night, the next in Jackson Community College's Front Porch Concert Series, on Thursday, June 3. This free concert will begin at 7 p.m. on the Front Porch of the Potter Center.
The theme for this concert, according to director Stan Grady, will be the big jazz band arrangers, with several pieces on the program. Concertgoers can enjoy these great arrangements:
"You Go to My Head," "Spring is Here," "My Heart Stood Still," "I've Got Plenty of Nuttin'," "Formula SK32," "Groovin' High," "Broadway," "'Round Midnight," "Just Friends," "Anitra's Dance," a Stan Kenton arrangement of "America the Beautiful," and "Sesos De Juesos."
The Jackson Jazz Ensemble - nicknamed the 1,000-year-old band because of its experienced performers -- is typically composed of 17 members, under Grady's direction. Members are primarily from the Jackson, Lansing and Adrian areas.
The Front Porch Series allows the community to enjoy great music in a comfortable, outdoors setting. These concerts are fun, free, accessible and guaranteed - activities will move indoors in case of inclement weather. Persons wishing to pre-arrange seating may call ahead at (517) 796-8559; otherwise, audience members are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating. Barbecue dinner will be available for concert-goers beginning about a half hour before the performance and running through the show.
Future Front Porch Concerts will be held June 20 and 29.
