Lost in Yonkers' a Fun, Feeling Comedy-Drama
Jackson Community College's Theatre Company will present the Neil Simon favorite, "Lost in Yonkers," October 22-24 and 29-31 in the Ruth Day Theatre, Potter Center.
This Tony Award-winning play by Neil Simon looks at the lives of two boys who, in 1942, are forced to live for a year with their domineering, ill-tempered grandmother while their father takes a job in another state. It features a cast of eccentric characters and mixes both classic Simon comedy and drama. The one-liners are hilarious, but the characters' sad, dysfunctional relationships are poignant. "Lost in Yonkers" is a powerful, moving drama replete with laughter, tears and insight.
The JCC production is being directed by Dr. Ann Green, former professor and current dean of arts and science at the College. It features a cast of three JCC students, one alumna, and three community members.
"The cast is doing very well. They knew their lines early and set design was done early. This has really been a dream production," Green said. "It will be a funny show, but also poignant and heart-warming."
Cast members include: Grandma, Mary Lou Blanchard; Eddie, Brad Choate; Jay, Paul Michael Doyle; Arty, Matthew Ruggles; Bella, Amanda Zuver; Gert, Denise Weber; and Louie, Joseph Dickson. Providing backstage support are Sandy DeCesare, who oversees set decoration, costume design and lighting design, and Michael Coy, set designer/technical director.
Performances will be held at 8 p.m. October 22 23, 29, 30, and 3 p.m. on October 24 and 31. Cost is $10 for adults, $8 for students and senior citizens. For more information, call 796-8600.
