GED Preparation Programs Coming to Channel 21

10 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday-Friday

Adults who need to complete their GED can soon prepare without leaving the house.  Jackson Community College and Bart Hawley of JTV, are partnering to offer access on the government channel.  Jackson cable channel 21 will offer preparation for the GED test at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, beginning November 1.

The Tests of General Educational Development (GED Tests) are designed to measure the major academic outcomes that students normally acquire by completing a typical high school program of study.  GED subject areas include language arts (multiple choice and essay), social studies, science, language arts - reading, and mathematics.  Each of the five tests uses a multiple-choice question format, and each GED candidate must complete a timed essay on an assigned topic.

JCC is offering a series of 26 half-hour tapes, to be run two per segment, for 13 hours of test review.  Assistance is also available through JCC's Center for Student Success for registered students, which offers tutoring, accommodations for those with disabilities and special populations and more.  Free assistance to prepare for the GED is available from South Central Michigan Works in Jackson.  Call Mary Palleson at 841-5627 x242 for more information.
