Spring Concert to feature Michigan composer

7 p.m. Sunday, March 20, Potter Center

Michigan composer Eric Knechtges' latest composition will premier when the Jackson Community Concert Band performs its Spring Concert at 7 p.m. Sunday, March 20 on stage at Harold Sheffer Music Hall, Potter Center.

The spring concert by the Jackson Community Concert Band will feature works of composers from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries.  Knechtges' composition "Winds Unfurled," a piece in four movements, will be just one of an exciting program of concert music performed.

The band will perform the ballet music from Alexander Borodin's Opera "Prince Igor."  These "Polovetsian Dances" were transcribed for concert band by Mark Hindsley and the University of Illinois Concert Band.  The band will then play "An Original Suite," by Gordon Jacob, and an Italian "Concert March" by G. Bonelli, arranged by Nicholas Falcone.  Ragtime music is next with xylophone soloist Scott Moilanen performing "Xylophonia," by Joseph Green.

This concert will honor the life and contributions of conductor and educator Fredrick Fennell.  The Jackson Community Concert Band is comprised of students and community members, under the direction of Conductor Ronald L. Douglass. Tickets are $5. Group rates available.  For tickets or more information, call (517) 796-8600.
