Aviation Celebration to boost JCC flight program to new heights

4 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, JCC Flight Center

With renewed support and a new academic partnership on the horizon, Jackson Community College will host an Aviation Celebration from 4-5:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 10 at the JCC Flight Center, Jackson County Reynolds Airport.

JCC will sign a 2+2 articulation agreement with Western Michigan University that provides JCC students a seamless transfer to the WMU College of Aviation. WMU Dean of Aviation, Captain Rick Maloney, WMU Provost Linda M. Delene, and WMU President Judy Bailey are scheduled to attend, as well as representatives of JCC's Board of Trustees, the JCC Aviation Advisory Board, and the JXN Flight Fund.  A representative of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, Senior Vice President Greg Lyman, will also attend.

JCC will also celebrate the official announcement of a $200,000 grant from the Weatherwax Foundation.

"This new articulation program with Western Michigan will broaden the educational opportunities for JCC aviation students," said Joyce Lockman, dean of occupational education at JCC.  "We are thankful for the grant from the Weatherwax Foundation that will provide necessary funds to continue our program.  This is truly an occasion to celebrate."
