July genealogy programs planned at JCC
Jackson Community College will present several workshops on genealogy in July. All workshops are free but do require registration. Please call presenter Karen Heard at 796-8622 to register. Workshops include:

Genealogy @ JCC: How to Start: Have you always wanted to start the search for your ancestors but didn't know where to start? Genealogical research requires a commitment to finding as many records as possible in order to document the life of your ancestors. This free workshop will jump start you on the hunt for your ancestors, presented at 2 p.m. on July 8.

Genealogy @ JCC: Vital Records: Knowing the time period, regional differences, and location of records is an important aspect of your ancestral quest. Civil vital records - births, marriages, and deaths - in America began to be recorded at different time periods in different localities. If recorded vital statistics don't exist in traditional sources, or if the records aren't available, you may be able to use substitute records to document these events. This workshop will provide information on how to research vital records of the federal, state and local government. It will be presented at 2 p.m. on July 15.

Genealogy @ JCC: Census Records: The United States government has conducted population enumerations every 10 years since 1790, and these records provide milestones by helping us physically locate our ancestors in those years.
