Speaking out! New speech instructor hopes to build forensics, debate program at JCC

Jackson Community College welcomes a new speech instructor to campus this fall, David Nadolski, who has plans for reinvigorating JCC's forensics and debate program.

Nadolski recently completed his Master of Fine Arts degree in speech and forensics from the Minnesota State University at Mankato, the first degree of its kind in the nation. His program included coursework in forensics and leadership, as well as directing a forensics team.

Now, he looks to bring his experience to JCC.

"I'm looking to build the program here at JCC into an excellent program," Nadolski said. "I hope we can travel to nationals and possibly internationals."

JCC has had great success in forensics in the past, and Nadolski hopes to continue on the College's fine traditions.

Nadolski grew up with an interest in theater and forensics, and after graduating high school in Midland, went to Western Michigan University where he founded the forensics, speech and debate team, which grew from a start of five people to 30 people, and funding of $500 to $17,000 in five years. He was offered a full scholarship to the Minnesota State University-Mankato, where he completed his new MFA degree, a terminal degree for that field.

He believes forensics can be helpful to those in any field where people must speak and communicate. "Nurses, police officers, those going into communications, all can benefit from forensics training," Nadolski said.

Students interested in forensics may contact Nadolski in his office in Bert Walker Hall, 239, or call (517) 796-8491.
