The next step: Complete your GED, get voucher for college class

Been thinking about finishing up your GED? Jackson Community College is offering as an incentive to those who complete all subject areas of the GED test a tuition voucher good for three billing contact hours.

"We would like to encourage people who haven't completed their GED to get started now, and when they do complete them, they can move right on to college," said Mary Ann Rainey, GED chief examiner for JCC.

The GED is a series of five tests that measures the knowledge and skills typically learned during high school, including:

  1. Language Arts - Writing
  2. Social Studies
  3. Science
  4. Language Arts - Literature
  5. Mathematics

JCC currently offers GED testing at the Michigan Works Service Center in the Commonwealth Commerce Center in Jackson on the second and fourth Fridays of the month. Please pre-register with Mary Pallesen at (517) 841-5637. Cost of each individual test is $25. Some accommodations may be made for those with schedule conflicts, contact Mary Ann Rainey at (517)796-8454 to set up an appointment if you need to test at a different time.

JCC and JTV 17 offer videotaped reviews at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays.
