Educators can learn from the best at 4th Annual Future Teachers Conference

Mark your calendars! Jackson Community College will host the fourth annual Future Teachers Conference on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006, on the JCC main campus.

The Future Teachers Conference provides an opportunity for current and future teachers to explore current issues in education and instructional methods. The largest of its kind in Michigan, the conference is sponsored by JCC, Spring Arbor University and the Jackson County Intermediate School District.

Keynote speaker for this event will be Michigan Teacher of the Year for 2005-06, Dan Schab, high school mathematics teacher at Williamston High School. With 25 years of teaching experience, Schab has taught a wide range of classes from seventh-grade math to advanced placement calculus. His success in the classroom has provided him with many opportunities outside of school. In 2000, he traveled to Japan as part of the Toyota International Teacher Program. In the 2003-04 school year, he worked in Washington, D.C. with the Senate Education Committee. In 2004, he participated in the International Congress of Mathematics Education in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Breakout sessions will also be held on a wide range of topics, including classroom management, professional interviewing, new teachers panel, adolescent social issues panel, Michigan Department of Education - the Umbrella for Teachers, and education as a performance.

Registration for the conference begins at 8:30 a.m. in Potter Center, and the conference begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 2 p.m. Advance registration is only $15 until Feb. 19; registrations postmarked after Feb.19 will be $20.
