3/2/06 For immediate release Open house to feature new ceramics & pottery studioSee what's in the works as Jackson Community College hosts an open house for the new ceramics and pottery studio from 5-8 p.m. Monday, March 20, in Justin Whiting Hall Room 169. This open house will give area residents a chance to see the new pottery and ceramics program that is up and running at JCC. Interested individuals may drop in any time to see JCC students at work as well as a showing of current and past projects. High school students interested in taking classes at JCC in the spring or fall can come and ask questions and meet the instructor. JCC began offering ceramics classes in the fall of 2005, the first since the 1980s. Local developments, including the establishment of a local pottery guild and interest in beads, have indicated a resurging interest in hands-on artwork. "We want to invite everyone to see our new studio and get an idea of what our students are working on," said Assistant Professor Tom McMillen-Oakley. Refreshments will also be available. If you would like more information on ceramics or any art classes available at JCC, contact McMillen-Oakley at 796-8577. |
