Affirmative action proposal topic of forum with Sen. Schauer

Jackson Community College will host a forum at 10 a.m. Monday, April 17, in Federer Rooms A&B, Potter Center, to discuss a possible 2006 ballot referendum before the State of Michigan to do away with all affirmative actions programs, presented by state Sen. Mark Schauer, a Democrat representing the19th District.

A ballot proposal known as the "Michigan Civil Rights Initiative" has been put forth and would make any affirmative action-style programs unconstitutional in the state. It would amend the state's Constitution to ban programs that give preferential treatment to groups or individuals based on their race, gender, color, ethnicity or national origin for public employment, education and contracting purposes.

All community members, students, faculty, staff and administration are welcome to attend this forum.
