JCC students to collect used textbooks for charity
Frustrated the bookstore didn't buy your books back? Don't throw them away, donate them to a good cause! This semester Alpha Rho Lambda, the Jackson Community College chapter of Phi Theta Kappa honor society, will partner with Better World Books (www.betterworldbooks.com) to run a book drive to benefit Room to Read.
Better World Books, a social venture company, utilizes the value of recent college textbooks (less than five years old) to fund literacy initiatives locally, nationally and around the world. Room to Read (www.roomtoread.org) partners with local communities to improve educational opportunities for children in the developing world. Their use of challenge grants has led to community building as well as construction of many schools and libraries, establishment of computer and language labs, publication of local language children’s titles and funding of long-term scholarships for girls who would have otherwise been neglected in favor of educating a male child. They have impacted the lives of children throughout Nepal, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and India.
If you have any college textbooks you would like to donate, collection boxes will be set up on the JCC campus May 3-12. Both hardcover and softcover books can be used. Donating these unwanted books is an easy way to do something positive that helps those most in need!
