September 12th, 2006 For immediate release Professor Mark Ott named to cross country assistant coach spot
Jackson Community College is pleased to announce that Professor Mark Ott, Ph.D., will now also serve as assistant coach of the Jets’ cross country teams. Mark Ott has taught chemistry at JCC for five years now, and for the past several years has presented a Christmastime “O’ Chemistry” science demonstration designed for school children. While he ran cross country and track in high school, he took a number of years off from running until last fall when students started a JCC running club. He hit the pavement again, and says he’s now in great shape. He finished his first marathon attempt this past summer, running a 2:59:04 at the Sunburst Marathon in South Bend, IN, which was fast enough to for him to qualify for the 2007 Boston Marathon. He also competes locally in several road races. “I’m looking forward to seeing improvement in our team,” Ott said. “We have several students who were not planning on running cross country in college who are now getting back into shape. I look forward to working with them and motivating them.” The cross country team recently competed in its first event, the Tommy Titan Invitational in Northville. The team travels to Big Rapids on Sept. 22 to participate in the Bulldog Invitational. |
