Jackson Community College Professors to Receive Prestigious Campus Compact Award
Honored for Service-Learning Contributions
LANSING, MI - Michigan Campus Compact (MCC) is pleased to announce that Ms. Colleen Chadderton and Ms. Linda Killian, Professor of Nursing at Jackson Community College, will be honored with an MCC Faculty/Staff Community Service-Learning Award at the 11th annual Institute: Service-Learning and Civic Engagement, Thursday, February 8, 2007 at 5:30 p.m. This prestigious annual award is the highest MCC bestows on faculty and staff in the state of Michigan.
Chadderton and Killian were designated by peers as the faculty/staff persons on campus who have made the most outstanding contributions in service-learning and community service. This award recognizes their influence on and engagement of students to be involved in community service or service-learning through modeling, instructing and/or special projects. They were nominated by Ms. Shannon Zoet, Service Learning Coordinator of Jackson Community College.
Chadderton and Killian began a partnership with the Region II Community Action Agency Head Start in Jackson. This partnership provides a practical service-learning opportunity to Jackson Community College nursing students and a valuable service to Head Start children and their parents. They have also implemented other service-learning projects into their courses, and both individually serve their communities, setting an example for their students as nursing leaders.
They will be formally honored during the Institute’s Service-Learning and Community Service awards ceremony and dinner that will take place at the VisTaTech Center on the campus of Schoolcraft College in Livonia, Mich. Dinner will begin at approximately 5:30 p.m., with the ceremony to follow.
Michigan Campus Compact promotes the education and commitment of Michigan college students to be civically engaged citizens, through creating and expanding academic, co-curricular and campus-wide opportunities for community service, service-learning and civic engagement.
