Jets hockey takes to ice this weekend
Jackson Community College’s club hockey team will play their first home game this Friday, Oct. 12 at 9:30 p.m. the Optimist Ice Arena, 1300 W. North, Jackson. The Jets will take on the Grizzlies of Oakland University.
“It’s looking promising,” said Alex Kimberly, head coach for the Jets. “It should be a great year. It is a time for rebuilding, but it looks like we are going to start out pretty good.”
The team will face some tough opponents in their first few weeks, including the defending champions from Wright State University on Oct. 26-27, and later Penn State and Calvin College.
“We have a good, solid team. They are really jelling together; the chemistry is starting to connect,” Kimberly said.
Fans will get to meet the players with introductions before the game, and there will be raffles between periods where fans can “chuck a puck” toward center ice to win. Admission cost is $5 for adults, $2 for students with college identification.
The next home games will be the following weekend, with a pair against Albion. The first is 8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, and again at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20 at the Optimist Arena against Albion. Future home games include:
· 8 p.m. Nov. 3 against Indiana University -- Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW)
· 10 p.m. Nov. 30 and 8:30 p.m. Dec. 1 against Eastern Kentucky University (EKU).
