Forensics team takes fourth at tournament

Jackson Community College’s forensics team members took fourth place at the L.E. Norton Tournament Saturday at Bradley University in Peoria, Ill.

JCC students Monica Rasmussen and Montgomery Beauchene participated in this invitational forensics tournament. Rasmussen competed in Impromptu Speaking and Prose Interpretation, “A Moonlit Night with Rats” by Elizabeth Engstrom. Beauchene competed in Poetry Interpretation category with selections from “Blue Wizard is About to Die” by Seth “Fingers” Flynn Barkan.

The L.E. Norton tournament, one of the largest invitationals in the nation, is one of the few that recognize two-year and community colleges in a separate category from four-year universities and colleges.  Seven of the 45 schools attending were two-year institutions.  JCC placed fourth based upon performance in the preliminary rounds.  This year, schools attending came from 21 different states.  Michigan was also represented by Eastern Michigan University and Central Michigan University.

This is JCC forensics’ team second tournament of the season.  They will travel to Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio, this coming weekend for a tournament.  The JCC Speech Club is open to all students upon registration in LTL 301 or SPH 101.  It is led by Paige Beauchene, director of forensics.
